MoScholars at a Glance:

In 2021, the Missouri General Assembly passed HB349 and SB86 which established the Missouri Empowerment Scholarship Accounts Program, MOScholars. The law provides state tax credits for contributions to approved, non-profit Educational Assistance Organizations (EAOs). These EAOs use the contributions to award scholarships to Missouri students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and students living in low-income households. This allows individuals and businesses to claim up to 1/2 their tax liability as a credit for equal contributions to approved EAOs. So if you owe 5,000.00 in Missouri State Tax, you (or your business) can make a contribution of up to 2,500.00 to an approved EAO, then receive a tax credit for 2,500.00 when filing your taxes. Any remaining credit not used during the current tax year can be carried over for four (4) succeeding years.

Business owner’s who pay quarterly taxes have found it convenient to alternate between paying state taxes one quarter and donating to our EAO, the Children’s Tuition Fund, the next. For instance, 1st and 3rd quarter payments would go to CTF for the corresponding tax credit, and 2nd and 4th quarter payments would go to the Missouri Department of Revenue. Using this method, 1/2 of your company’s tax liability would be redirected to support qualifying students who are attending New Hope Christian School. Your tax dollars would be staying in the local community and directly supporting your community’s local Christian school. New Hope Christian School is not a tax advising service, so please consult with your tax professional to determine the best course of action for your business.

Every penny you donate will be returned to you in the form of a tax credit when you file your taxes! We hope you will prayerfully consider supporting New Hope and its qualifying families by redirecting your tax dollars to Christian education through the MoScholars tax credit program.

Meet New Hope’s EAO—CTF

At New Hope Christian School, we feel so blessed that the Children’s Tuition Fund was willing to work with our school to help students and families find a way to make Christian education more affordable. The Children’s Tuition Fund is currently the only Missouri EAO funding students who attend school in the 64089 zip code, so If you are a business, family, or individual who would like to redirect up to 1/2 of your Missouri tax liability to support Christian education in your local community, please consider partnering with CTF. In addition to supporting Christian education state-wide, CTF will ask you what school inspired you to give, and when you select New Hope Christian School, your donation will be categorized so that if eligible students have an equal need, then your money will go to fund a New Hope scholarship first! This means there is a better chance that your donation dollars will remain in your community to further the cause of Christian education by directly benefiting NHCS students and families. In fact CTF coordinates with partner schools to assess needs and help solicit donations so the donations of generous community members stay in their local school of choice. God Bless you CTF for your support of Christian education and New Hope Christian School!

New Hope Families have already funded one New Hope student through the MOScholars program! Please consider helping us grow this program as there are many families and students who could benefit from redirecting a portion of your tax liability to Christian Education, and a big thank you to the families that have already contributed!

Claim MO Tax Credit/Donate to CTF

Step 1: Reserve your tax credit

Click the button to reserve your Missouri Tax Credit. Note: Tax credits must be for a minimum of 500.00 up to 1/2 the total Missouri tax liability. Any unused credit left over after the initial year can be carried forward for four (4) succeeding years. Your donation in the amount of your reserved credit must be received by CTF within 30 days, so be sure to complete the process in a timely manner. In the drop down menu to select your partnering EAO, select the first choice: ACSI Children Education Fund. This will ensure that your donation will help support Christian Education and, when possible, directly benefit New Hope Christian School students and families.

Step 2: Save your MOScholars Tax Credit Reservation Confirmation

You will receive a confirmation email from MOScholars@treasurer.mo.gov. Be sure to save this as a PDF so you can upload it on the CTF application.

Step 3: Go to CTF and Donate

Click the button to begin the process of donating to CTF. Follow the directions and upload your tax credit reservation confirmation. From the drop down menu, select New Hope Christian School - Smithville as the school that inspired you to give so your contribution has the opportunity to directly benefit a New Hope student.

Step 4: Mail your check to CTF or choose the ACH option.

If you don’t select the ACH option, then mail your check for the appropriate amount (made out to Children’s Tuition Fund Missouri) to the following address:

Children’s Tuition Fund Missouri

Attn: Marci DeCuir

PO Box 62249

Colorado Springs, CO 80962

Remember that the tax credit reservation is only good for 30 days, so CTF will need time to make sure your check clears, then they will notify the Missouri State Treasurer’s Office so your tax credit certificate can be released. The ACH option will speed up the process, resulting in you receiving your tax credit certificate sooner.

Step 5: Enjoy your tax credit, and thank you for supporting NHCS!

You will receive your tax credit certificate via email from the Missouri State Treasurer’s Office (MOScholars) in the form of a PDF. Be sure to share this certificate with your tax professional when you are submitting your taxes.
